SALT 2018 January Calendar // FREE Wallpaper

The Salt Design 2018 Calendar is here – a homage to our most loved modern artists and art movements.

January – by Daile

I love colour! And for as long as I can recall – I have loved the work of Henri Matisse and the Fauvism movement. What renegades they were for their time! Their bold use of vivid colour was such a revelation following the muted soft tones of the Impressionist movement.

Henri Matisse quickly adopted the role of leader of the Fauves, whose members used intense colour to describe light and space and communicate their emotions in a raw, unabashed manner never before seen.

I first learnt about the work of Henri Matisse in high school and continued to study his works during Art College. His use of graphic two-dimensional shapes in vivid colour combinations have provided inspiration and direction throughout my professional design career. I continue to be inspired by his use of colour and expressive forms which are as fresh and contemporary today as they were one hundred years ago.

Of course, as an added bonus, we couldn’t help but create FREE wallpapers for your desktop and mobile devices!

Musings from our recent Salty overseas adventure

Hello my old friends – you haven’t aged a bit!

Perhaps the most significant moment during my trip to Paris was the day I reacquainted myself with some old and dear friends – the Impressionists and the Fauvists!

What a revelation it was to actually view the artworks I had so intently studied in high school and at Art College. Researching their lives, studying their styles, recreating their masterpieces in an effort to better understand their passion and, for that matter, my passion for creative expression.

To be able to walk right up to paintings by Paul Cezanne, Degas, Matisse, Picasso, Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec and Monet (just to name a few!) was a dream come true!

To closely study each paint stroke and then step back to view each masterpiece in full and realise this was not a coffee table book or poster – but the real thing! Pinch me please!!!!

Thank you Paris for reconnecting me with old familiar friends. The years may have passed – but they all looked better now than I could have ever remembered!
